Servings: 2 loaves

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • cup milk
  • tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • tbsp butter (softened and cubed)
  • cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp butter (for melting on top of baked loaves)

Method

  1. Combine water, milk, yeast, and sugar in a stand mixer bowl. Let sit for 15 minutes until foamy
  2. Add honey, salt, butter, and flour to the bowl. Knead the dough with a dough hook for 1 minute on low. If necessary add 1-2 more tablespoons of flour if dough is sticky. Continue to knead for 7-8 minutes until dough easily pulls off the side of the bowl
  3. Cover bowl with plastic wrap and let rise for 45 minutes in a warm place
  4. Once doubled, turn dough out onto a floured surface and divide into two equal pieces
  5. Gently make two rectangles (about 8×12) and roll tightly starting at the short end. Finish by tucking the ends under the roll to seal
  6. Put each loaf into a greased loaf pan seam side down. Cover with greased plastic wrap and let rise for another 45-50 minutes in a warm place
  7. Once doubled, preheat oven to 400℉ and position racks into lower-middle
  8. Remove plastic wrap and bake in the 400℉ oven for 22-25 minutes or until golden brown
  9. After baking immediately and evenly rub with butter and let it run down the edges of the loaves
  10. Remove loaves from pans and let cool on a wire rack before slicing
