Texas Brownies (Sheet Pan Style)

Rich, chocolately Texas brownies baked in a sheet pan and topped with a smooth, fudgy frosting. This easy, feed-a-crowd dessert is perfect for potlucks, family gatherings, or anytime you need a simple, reliable chocolate dessert that disappears fast.
Servings: 24 brownies

Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups butter
  • 1 ¼ cups water
  • 5 tbsp cocoa powder
  • cup butter milk
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 ¼ tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 2 ½ cups sugar
Frosting
  • cup butter
  • 2 ½ tbsp cocoa powder
  • 5 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 400℉ and line an 18×13 half sheet pan with parchment
  2. Over medium heat in a large saucepan, combine butter, water and cocoa. Stir until boiling
  3. Remove from heat and mix in buttermilk, eggs, vanilla and baking soda
  4. Add flour and sugar (do not over mix)
  5. Pour into sheet pan lined with parchment paper
  6. Bake for 16-18 minutes until set in the center and the toothpick comes out with a few moist crumbs
  7. During last 10 minutes of baking, combing butter, cocoa and milk in another sauce pan to make the frosting
  8. Continuously stir and heat to boiling
  9. Remove from heat and add powdered sugar and vanilla
  10. Immediately pour warm frosting over brownies as soon as they're out of the oven
  11. Cool for 30 minutes and cut into bars
